We think we are a slightly different employer from most other hospitality venues - here's what we think sets us apart.

We pay at least 50p above National Minimum Wage and we don't discriminate against younger employees - if they are doing the same work as adults we pay them the adult rate

Stable shifts for the summer and winter seasons

  • We know working in hospitality can be unsociable and is often exploited. We share out our evening and weekend shifts as much as we can, offering everybody at least 1 day off a week and 1 weekend off a month.
  • Once the rota is set for the season we rarely ask you to change your working pattern.

Long term employment

  • 93% our staff have been with us for over 10 months
  • 70% for more than 3 years
  • 50% for more than 5 years

Training and development

  • All staff are offered fire, food hygiene and first aid training when we deliver it
  • Leadership training, NVQs and other forms of extra training and qualifications are offered where appropriate.
  • Many of our staff are now actively involved in the business management / decision making processes.
  • We welcome new ideas and suggestions for how we can improve and encourage those with the skills and capacity to become more involved in the business

A sustainable business

  • We try to run the business so that it provides a high quality service to our customers, provides good employment conditions for our staff, is a valued part of our community and doesn’t damage the environment in the process.
  • 100% of our heating is from sustainable wood pellets
  • We offer lots of vegetarian and vegan options on our menu, using local or ethical suppliers wherever we can, including local farms associated with our owners for beef & lamb and salads & vegetables
  • We use local contractors and support the local economy as much as we can
